Yes, Justin Timberlake is back with his third studio album the 20/20 experience. JT has taken a
seven-year break since his last album Future/Sex
Love Sounds was released in 2006. Since then he has spent time on the big
screen and of course working on his new project.
Timberlake’s label RCA Records was expecting him to sell
500,000 to 600,000 units. As of this week, the pop sensation reached over
900,000 units. Only 19 albums in history have sold more than 900,000 in their
debut week, and Justin Timberlake is involved in 3 of those 19. He reached this
goal with N Sync’s No strings Attached, and the groups Celebrity album.
His albums success has to do with his great following, along
with his unique marketing tactics. Timberlake had a full week on “Late Night with
Jimmy Fallon” promoting his album, along with performing at the Grammy’s. This
promotion didn’t just happen though; JT began negotiating with Fallon as far as
a year before the album dropped.
The 20/20 experience was also streamed 7.73 million times
via Spotify during its first week.
Spotify had a lot to do with me going out to purchase the
album. Spotify’s unique platform allows you ear the entire album without
download, which gave me a chance to check the album out before purchasing it.
Justin Timberlake brought the music industry a groovy
project. We can hear a taste of R&B, Pop, Soul, and Hip-hop all in one.
That’s guaranteed when you are working with legendary producer Timbaland.
Everyone has heard “Suit & Tie”, but if I can recommend
two of my favorite songs from the album it would have to be “Strawberry Bubblegum” and “Tunnel Vision”. If you are familiar with old classics, a lot
them give the lyrics a rest and let the band groove for a while. I feel that
same concept, in these two songs and a few others.
Don’t let me have all of the fun though, go out and PURCHASE
Justin Timberlake’s The 20/20 Experience.

Very nice post about Justin Timberlake's new album. His marketing strategy was definitely a huge aspect for all this success, he was very smart. Justin wasn't only on "Late Night with Jimmy Fallon” all week, but in many programs through out the channel, NBC officially called it Justin Timberlake's week. Here is a link talking a little bit more about it (with some videos of his performances also): http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/tv-column/post/justin-timberlake-begins-takeover-of-nbc-this-week-with-saturday-night-live/2013/03/11/5047fd76-8a58-11e2-98d9-3012c1cd8d1e_blog.html
It is also interesting to see how Spotify is playing a big role in the music industry, I believe that is also something that helped creating the buzz for the album and even helped on the sales. Many people did what you did and listened to the album before and realized it was worth buying it.
Very interesting post and blog!
